Poem – Connected to Disconnect

Here is a poem I wrote earlier this year to show how our society uses technology to detach themselves from the real world.

Connected to Disconnect

My thumbs do all of the talking

I can’t remember the last time

I used my voice to give an opinion

My eyes are glued to the screen

Wanting more and getting less

Losing all connection to reality

My heart aches for a sense of belonging

In a world that is made up of pictures

Who am I trying to impress?

Power in my pocket

Phantom vibrations bring

short-lived jubilation

More time is spent staring

without making any eye contact

I connect in order to disconnect

with my problems
