Poem: Marriage

You and I are like two boats on the sea

Trying to make our way back to each other

You paddled left and I paddled right

We were getting nowhere

For until you can paddle on both sides of the boat

You will forever spin in circles

Then one day as we were shouting across the sea

Hoping to hear the other’s voice

We both put our hands on both paddles

Together we rowed

Both hands working together

To find our way back to each other

Then like a miracle we collided again

Our boats tipped over

And we treaded water for a while

Then we worked together to tip one of the boats

We helped each other climb back in

Then for the first time in a long time
We embraced with both arms
