Flash Fiction Challenge December 28, 2017

Wishing For Warmth
The fire had begun to die. The young newlyweds had not expected to be trapped. With no signal or electricity, that fire was the only thing keeping them alive. They had wished to be alone on their honeymoon, but they should have been careful what they wished for.
He went in search of wood as the snow began to fall again. When there was no wood to be found, he looked to the sky and could make out a single star. Like a child, he made a wish for warmth. That is when he saw the pile of wood.

A lovely story. I’m glad his wish was granted. I’d have hated to read the outcome otherwise.

I don’t always write happy endings but I wanted to feel like his wish was granted. The couple were not careful on their first wish of were to honeymoon but they learned how to correctly ask for what they need when it came to the second wish.

Thankfully, they learnt their lesson before it was too late. Happy new year.

That’s what we can all hope for in life, to learn from our mistakes. For mistakes are meant to happen so that we can learn to be better people. Even the worst mistakes can be a lesson for yourself and even for others.

I was thinking that maybe the newlyweds would be able to generate their own warmth 🙂 But even that has limits so I’m happy he found the pile of wood.

They had already done that but now that the fire is gone even that isn’t enough to keep them going.

We take the basics for granted until we don’t have them. Warmth is one. I like how he found the pile of wood after exhausting all else.

I wanted to show the reader that you can get what you need if you wish carefully. They wished to be completely alone for their honeymoon and did not think of the repercussions of that wish. So the husband wished for warmth to keep them alive to survive the storm. It was a carefully thought out wish that granted him what he was looking for.

Nice story. I’m impressed you told so much in just 99 words, and was happy you decided not to leave them out in the cold. 🙂

I contemplated a darker ending but I felt if you are wishing on a star you should get what you wish for as long as you are careful what you wish for.
