January 4, 2018, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about Copper Country. It can be any place, fictional, historical, or on another planet. Go where the copper leads.
Fields of Copper
In the early morning, when my family is sleeping, that is when I watch the sun rise over dancing wheat and I hold my breath to listen for music. Leaving the urban jungle for the countryside was the best thing I could have ever done.
I once spent my nights disassembling copper pipes for profit, now I spend my mornings gazing upon the fields of copper. I know that one day the truth will catch up with me because no one can stay in hiding forever. But until then, I will watch as the sun rises over Copper Country. (99 words)

That photo of the fields of copper is spectacular. Lovely visuals you gave us in your story but you have me wanting more. I want to know what the truth is that is going to catch up with her.

Knowing that you wanted more means I did my job. Stories should leave you thinking and maybe even questioning things. 99 words is short but it challenges you to give details without saying a lot.

Yep. It was all nice and sweet and then you left a twisted copper hook.

What a spectacular picture of that field of copper. And great depiction of her ‘progress’ in life through two different usages of copper. I’m sure those gold ingots she robbed from Fort Knox are buried under this very field 🙂

It am always amazed by how 99 words when written well can create a bigger story and let’s your imagination run wild as to what else is in the story.

My field of copper is in the shed out back buried in snow. I like your field of copper better.

Flash fiction is like poetry in that it pushes us to leave out as well as add to. I like the contrast between the different lifestyles beneath the glow of the country fields.
