Flash Fiction: Over Indulging

March 16, 2018, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about carrot cake. It can be classic or unusual. Why is there cake? How does it feature in the story. Go where the prompt leads.

Over Indulging

“Cut me another slice of cake. One with a frosting carrot on top.” Jerry said, shoveling the last bite of cake.

“Are you sure?” Ariana hesitated.

“It is my right as an American.”

She sighed and enabled her husband’s habit of drowning himself in food. This was not what she imagined would happen when she agreed to marry him.

“I should have stayed in my country.” Ariana spoke under her breathe as she handed him the cake.

“What?”

“I am glad you brought me to this country.”

“Best money I ever spent. You are even better than your ad.”

    1. I wrote this thinking about a few of my white male friends who have the mentality that being an American gives them the right to do and say anything due to the current administration. Being a kind person, I do not block them when they ramble on about the world in such a closed minded way. I wish more Americans would travel to see the differences in the world and how each place and each person is beautiful in their own ways. No one thing or person is better than another.

      1. Travel does so much to open minds. The men you speak od suffer from toxic thinking, and it is amplified by our current administration. Your flash shows what it looks like.
