Flash Fiction: What’s Below the Surface?

I decided to go out on the ice that night to practice. With only the light of the moon, I skated until I was one with the ice. My heart was beating so loudly that I didn’t hear the cracking. Without warning I plunged into the frigid water. My body felt like glass breaking the deeper I sank. I knew there was no way out.

Then from below me came two hands pushing me towards the surface. When I was again on the ice, I used the majority of the strength I had left to see there was nothing in the water.
