Flash Fiction – Striking It Rich

Striking It Rich

At first, we thought the black liquid was oil, that we had struck it rich. We actually began to discuss all the ways we would spend the money. After we stopped the bank from taking our house, of course.

Then we noticed that mom was running out of the house screaming. We thought she was overjoyed by what we had done to save the family farm. Instead of a look of happiness, she looked angry.

“You hit the sewer line!”

Bobby looked at me and we instantly realized that we weren’t covered from head to toe in financial freedom.
